This section describes the preparations needed before starting the installation of your Amaranten Firewall Appliance product. Please note that this section only applies to products from the Amaranten Firewall Appliance Series. If you are installing a product from the Amaranten Firewall Software Series, you should read the section Amaranten Firewall Software preparations instead.

Note: The Amaranten Firewall Appliance Series includes both desktop and rack-mountable models. Information that apply to a specific model only are marked with Desktop and Rack, respectively.
Carefully open the shipping carton of your Amaranten Firewall Appliance and carefully unpack its contents. The carton should contain the following items:

Rack: Mounting kit for ETSI racks
Ethernet cable(s)
RS-232 null-modem cable
Rack: Power cord
Desktop: AC power adapter

Follow these precautions when installing your Amaranten Firewall Appliance:
Rack: The rack or cabinet should be adequately secured to prevent it from becoming unstable and/or falling over.
Rack: Devices installed in a rack or cabinet should be mounted as low as possible, with the heaviest devices at the bottom and progressively lighter devices installed above.
Make sure that the power source circuits are properly grounded, then use the power cord supplied with the firewall appliance to connect it to the power source.
If your installation requires a different power cord than the one supplied with the firewall appliance, be sure to use a power cord displaying the mark of the safety agency that defines the regulations for power cords in your country. The mark is your assurance that the power cord can be used safely with the firewall appliance.
Ensure that the firewall appliance does not overload the power circuits, wiring and over-current protection. To determine the possibility of overloading the supply circuits, add together the ampere ratings of all devices installed on the same circuit as the firewall appliance and compare the total with the rating limit for the circuit. The maximum ampere ratings are usually printed on the devices near the AC power connectors.
Do not install the firewall appliance in an environment where the operating ambient temperature might exceed 35?.
Make sure that the airflow around the sides and back of the firewall appliance is not restricted.
Your Amaranten Firewall Appliance can be mounted onto any appropriate flat, level surface that can safely support the weight of the appliance and its attached cables. Please ensure there is adequate space around the unit for ventilation and access to operating switches and cable connectors.
Amaranten Firewall Appliances can be installed in most 19" standard racks. The products can also be installed in ETSI racks using the ETSI rack mounting kit included in the package. Fasten the appliance with screws suitable for the kind of rack you are using.
